What is Slant 3D's Print Quality

The big question that always comes up is "How good are your Prints." That is totally fair. Print quality is a huge factor of any print service. And we have had to work continuously to keep up and improve more. Here is some reference.

How are the Prints Made?

Prints are made on Demand in one of Slant 3D's giant print farms. The largest is speced for 3000 machines. And Slant 3D is building more all the time. You basically have thousands of machines available to support you.

  • We track every part as it comes off machines

  • Every single part is inspected for (Warp, shifts, skips, and color)

  • We use machinery that was build for mass production but still matched Prusa or Bambulab if you have a desktop reference.

What is the Slant 3D Print Quality?

Great Question. Slant 3D has one of the most reliable print services on the planet. Here is a good long explanation. But currently <1% of orders ever have any issue. This includes print quality, failed shipment, or just a dissatisfied customer of any sort. UPS estimates that 1% of their packages may have some issue.

Ways to improve this even more is to follow a few very simple rules

  1. Make sure the part is for FDM

  2. Design for these print Settings

  3. Make sure you have printed it before.

  4. Make nothing smaller than 20mm cubed

  5. Minimize Support

  6. Run a Test Print Through Portals (contact support@slant3d.com and we will help all we can)

  7. Use these other design tips

But you a model designer. You already knew all of that.

Here are a few examples of the exceptional print quality from Portals by Slant 3D, which is unmatched by any other 3D Printing service for ecommerce.

What about our Negative Reviews?

We are not perfect. When making thousands of parts mistakes will be made. We own those and make adjustments. But we put in protections to make sure our customers are never hurt by this.

  • Instant Refund - You can tap a button in Teleport and instantly get a refund. Even if you got the part and it was great. But it makes sure that we pay if anything is wrong.

  • Free Replacement if requested (Even if shipping fails)

  • When an error is reported our Team reviews the part and updates slicing and will make sure that that specific file is fixed moving forward

  • Gabe Does a livestream often so you can talk directly to him live to get help.

But we have had bad reviews. We are humans.

This one in particular happened in the first couple of months of Teleport existing while we were still working out bugs. At the time of this post it is nearly 6 months old.

From this review we instantly reached out to 3DPP to fix the issues with his set of ~6 parts that he paid <$10 for. (And even had solutions included in the box which we alluded to in the video)

Fixes that we made in response

  1. We put in a filter in Teleport to check for exceptionally small parts. (There was a bug in the system on this order since 3DPP uploaded a set of parts that took up more space than our minimum volume)

  2. We also implemented a new policy of shipping late rather than shipping bad. These parts had been flagged for quality issues (As 3DPP pointed out in his video) But there was not time to go through each part and fix the individual issues. Now we will not ship a part if it is out of spec and we know it.

  3. We optimized the settings across the system to support miniatures if they ever came through again. (But we still do not recommend miniatures be made with FDM. Features can often be smaller than the diameter of the nozzle (ie the tip of a tiny sword)

Things we suggested to him

  1. We suggested not batching them so individual pieces could be sliced separately

  2. We reminded him of the 0.2mm layer height (different from his 0.1)

  3. And we suggested not using Gray PLA which is not the best for small, high detail items (Blacks and dark colors are better. Like the green in his videos)

  4. And we paid him $100 bounty for the bug report. All of this type of feedback is a huge help.

Our Good Reviews

Plenty of people seem to be having a good time with what we putting out so far.

So hopefully that give so so context about how much we care about print quality. Portals an Teleport are crated to make sure that the incredible inventions made by 3D Printing creators can reach the rest of the planet. Without everyone having to build their own factory. We do all we can to make that amazing.
